The goal is to get the horse to trust humans again. This is huge challenge, but a rewarding one. But it is also to get the horse to trust itself again.
Intake Status: Bentley was brought at auction from Bowie and then traded around before we intercepted her. She is okay with humans, but still shy. She takes a halter and shows no signs of disease.
Current Status: Vet said she looks great. And she did great with the farrier. No infection or issues. We also did 2 rounds of dewormer to get her started.
Intake Status: Cooper was brought at auction from Bowie and then traded around before we intercepted him. We are seeing some issues with his knees and fetlocks. He didn’t like the farrier, but he let her get his feet back in shape.
Current Status:Â The vet did a full exam. Unfortunately, Cooper has some deformities in his knees (you can kind of see it in the picture) that even if we operate, he has a very poor prognosis. There are issues with other joints as well. They appear to be there since birth, but left untreated or checked. This is why he was dumped at an auction. He had other internal issues we had to address as well.
Regrettably, the best decision for Cooper was to give him the Last Act of Kindness. His future life was a path full of pain with no relief.
Current Status: Vet gave him good report. We are putting him on an antibiotic to clear up a small infection and we did a double dose of wormer to clean him out. He responded well to both. He is now halter broke and working on lead. And is ready to start ground work training in a week. He has a slight skin allergy that we are treating with creme. He is also scheduled for gelding in April 2025. After his healing, he will be ready to move.
Ideal Forever Home: Maverick is looking to become someone’s heart horse. His eyes that were so wide when he arrived, have softened to a genuine curiosity. This is your horse if you want to put your stamp on him. He is still young enough to be fully trained for any type of activity you have planned.
Intake Report: Pulled from a sale barn in Oklahoma, this horse has been on the “auction” route for quite a few weeks moving from one sale to another before we intercepted him. We were able to trace his past and he has no “baggage” or health issues from the past. But he is skinny right now and does not like humans at all. Who can blame him?
